Autism spectrum disorders

According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), approximately 2 to 6 per 1,000 children have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Demand is rising for professionals with training in this field.

The certificate program in autism spectrum disorders prepares students with the most effective instructional and behavioral methods for this population. The program offers professional development opportunities for autism resource specialists, social service agency staff, and school personnel, among others.

Program highlights

Electives: Students can choose from courses including Social and Interpersonal Characteristics of Students with Disabilities and Programs and Curricula for Learners with Severe Disabilities.

Interdisciplinary study: This program is offered by the college's Department of Educational Psychology in conjunction with the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts.
