Family violence prevention
Students in this field learn theories and research related to
violent behavior, examine relationships between violence in society
and violence within families, and explore different professional
responses to violence.
Courses are designed to teach students in
fields related to social services, education, health care, and other
direct service fields about issues related to child abuse and
neglect, adult domestic violence, elder abuse, and intergenerational
abuse.

Interdisciplinary study:
Students in the program can take
courses in a variety of subject areas, including child and
adolescent psychiatry, sociology, and family social science.
Research centers: The School of Social Work houses several
research and training centers, including the
Center for
Advanced Studies in Child Welfare, the
Center for
Restorative Justice & Peacemaking, the
Institute
on Domestic Violence in the African American Community, and the
Minnesota Center Against Violence & Abuse.
