What motivates me in my work?

I am motivated to excel. My passion for psychology and education drive my work, especially as related to multicultural issues and complex social problems. As an engaged scholar, I want to contribute to the social good and improve the human condition.

What can students expect from me?

Students can expect me to engage them in the questions that I find deeply meaningful, important and interesting, particularly complex questions with direct implications for the social good and/or personal well-being. My courses require students to apply learning to their own lives or immediate social contexts.

What drives my research?

My research includes empirically-supported practices aimed at reducing the opportunity gap. Prior to becoming a professor I worked for TRIO programs--federally-funded educational outreach programs designed to motivate and support students from underrepresented populations in higher education. Trained as a scientist practitioner, I focus on integrating theory, research, and practice to contribute to empirically-supported educational interventions that improve outcomes for non-traditional college students.
