Admission to Parent and Family Education Licensure Program
Below are the requirements and application procedures for the Parent and Family Education licensure program. Learn more about the program here.
Admission Criteria:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited US institution or foreign equivalent with a 2.80 or higher grade point average (GPA).
- If the applicant’s primary language is not English, a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 213 for the computer-based exam, or 550 for the paper-based exam.
Application Deadlines
A complete application packet must be received by the application deadline date. If a complete packet is not received, the application will be moved forward be considered for the next admission term.
- Summer semester admission: February 1
- Fall semester admission: June 1
- Spring semester admission: October 1
How to Apply
Mail the following materials to CEHD Student Services, 360 Educational Sciences Building, 56 East River Road, Minneapolis, MN 55455
- Application for Parent Education Licensure Program.
- Application instructions (PDF)
- Application (PDF)
- Official transcripts from all institutions where undergraduate or graduate work has been completed. University of Minnesota transcripts are exempt.
- Professional resume.
- $55 application fee, a check made out to “University of Minnesota.”
- A copy of existing Minnesota teaching licenses (if held).
Application review
Once you have submitted a complete application packet, it will be reviewed by faculty and advisers. You may be asked to submit additional materials for courses that may meet licensure requirements on transcripts from institutions other than the University of Minnesota.
Decision information is mailed approximately 6-8 weeks following the application deadline date. If admitted, you will receive a customized contract that specifies your requirements to be recommended for licensure. Please immediately complete and return your Intent to Enroll form to confirm your acceptance.
