From the student perspective, our current freshmen recognize that their parents have always been their best supporters and advisers. They acknowledge the contributions their parents have made to their achievements. They also recognize that their parents are making sacrifices to put them through college.
When students begin their university experience, all members of the family face new challenges. Students must learn how to manage their academic life, finances, health, and social life on their own. They continue to seek the advice of their parents, while asking themselves "My parents said this was wrong - Well, really, is it?" Parents want their children to be responsible for making decisions and dealing with consequences, and they are looking for guidance on how to be appropriately involved in their children's lives - to move from protecting their children to empowering them.
