Undergraduate Students
Welcome to the family social science undergraduate program. This
multidisciplinary major is a great match for students interested in helping
people, developing counseling skills, and understanding human relationships
across the lifespan.
After completing extensive coursework in family social science and a
rigorous internship, our graduates are well-prepared to work with families
in professional environments. Many continue their educations through
graduate study in family science or related family programs such as marriage
and family therapy or social work.
Our students follow career paths that take them all over the world but
they are all committed to one vision: a better future.

Undergraduate
Research Opportunities (UROP)
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), is administered by
the Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Minnesota. This program
is designed to give undergraduate students and faculty members the
opportunity to work together on research, scholarly, or creative activities.
UROP offers financial awards (up to $1400) twice yearly to full time
undergraduates for research, scholarly, or creative projects undertaken in
partnership with a faculty member. It encourages students to conduct
research and pursue academic interests outside of their regular courses by
employing them to work on special research projects. UROP applications are
judged on both the quality of the proposed project and the educational
benefit to the student; awards are not based on financial need.
