The Burton Society

The Burton Society honors a distinctive group of donors who helps the college achieve excellence through their annual giving of $1,000 or more to the college.

Burton Hall, built in 1895, is one of the oldest buildings on the Twin Cities campus and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Named in honor of Marion Burton, fourth president of the University, Burton Hall is the administrative home of the College of Education and Human Development.

Membership benefits include:

  • Exclusive communications from the dean
  • Special invitations to events and programs
  • ResearchWorks updates
  • Recognition in the annual donor report

Society membership is renewable on an annual basis (the fiscal year is July 1 through June 30). To be a member of this recognition society, donors must contribute or pledge $1,000 or more and pay all pledges by the end of the fiscal year. Corporate matching gifts count toward membership.

Giving can be to one or more funds in the College of Education and Human Development. Payments can be made on a one-time basis or by automatic installments by credit or debit card or payroll deduction (for U of M staff and faculty only). The membership roster is updated each year in August. Members at the $1,000 level also will be recognized as Maroon & Gold Partners, a University-wide program for recognizing individual annual giving.
