Please join us for what promises to be a stimulating and
inspiring program on Women’s Leadership in Public Service.
The Women’s Philanthropic Circle has invited CEHD and U of M
alumnae who are leaders in various public service organizations
to talk about their motivations for public service, how mentors
have helped them in their achievements, the ways that they use
research from the college and University in their work, and much
more. Panelists are: Regent Linda Cohen;
Representative Mindy Greiling; Senator Patricia Torres Ray; and
Kate Rubin, President of the Minnesota High Tech Association.
Dr. Susan Hagstrum, WPLC member and University First Lady, will
be the moderator.
Enjoy a great program and meet other interesting CEHD alumni
and friends.
Cost is $10.00 (payable to the University of
Minnesota) for guests who are not members of the Circle.
Parking is available in the University Avenue Ramp (directly
across from Williams Arena).

The Women’s Philanthropic Leadership Circle cordially invites
you to attend its spring program on Monday, March 23, 5:30 –
7:30 p.m., in the President’s Room of Coffman Union. Rachel
McDonough will speak on the topic Thoughtful Philanthropy. In
her talk she will address the importance of being intentional
with our resources and the steps for incorporating a giving plan
into a wealth management strategy. Rachel is a partner in
the McDonough|Peterson Investment Group and has earned the
Certified Financial Planner™ designation. In 2008 she was named
one of the Top Women in Finance by Finance and Commerce
Newspaper. She was also named Corporate Champion of Women by the
Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce and is a frequent guest
speaker.

What are the challenges that female student athletes face on
the court and in the classroom? How are women athletes portrayed
in the media? What does it take to be a successful female
student athlete? Join us as we discuss these questions and more
with our panel of experts:

Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sport
- Dr. Nicole LaVoi, associate director of the
Tucker Center

scholarships and grants to CEHD female graduate students, staff,

Health Benefits for Women Through Environmental
Connections
with Dr. Mary Meyer
Dr. Meyer will discuss how gardening and the interaction with
the natural world affects our health. Learn about the nurturing
role environmental connections have for women. Mary is a
professor in horticultural science at the U and will share her
ideas about gardening’s nurturing and creative role in our
lives, as well as the importance of the environmental geography
of our childhood.
