CPsy 3308W - Introduction to Research Methods in Child Psychology
This is an undergraduate writing intensive course focusing on the process of scientific inquiry. It is meant to provide students with a background in the understanding of the methods associated with conducting sound research in developmental psychology, including the ethical and practical issues developmental psychologists face. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to (1) clearly, concisely, and honestly evaluate research methodology and design, (2) know how to read and evaluate research papers in peer reviewed journals, (3) be able to communicate in writing with different audiences in science, and (4) have a better understanding of APA Style. Because this is a writing intensive course, students will submit and revise written work for instructor and peer review.
Who should take this course?
Students who are interested in learning about the process of conducting research from designing a research proposal to evaluating research methodology and design, with special focus on ethical concerns of conducting research on vulnerable populations. This class will also provide a strong foundation in understanding APA style.
Students who are interested in pursuing research opportunities or students who would like to develop a better understanding of how to read scholarly work.
