M.Ed. in Applied Kinesiology sample program with emphasis in Sport Management

Starting Fall 2012 the suggested curriculum is as follows. If you were admitted before Fall 2012 you can choose to stay with the previous curriculum or change to the curriculum listed below. Students will complete the following courses in succession for a total of 30 credits.

Required program: 30 credits minimum

GPA: A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 is required to maintain good standing and to graduate.

  1. Department Core Course Requirements (22 credits)

    A. KIN 5421 Sport Finance, 3 cr.

    B. KIN 5725 Organization & Management in Physical Education and Sport, 3 cr.

    C. KIN 5601 Sport Management Ethics and Policy, 3 cr.

    D. KIN 5631 Programming & Promotion of Sport, 3 cr

    E. KIN 5801 Legal Aspects of Sport & Recreation, 4 cr.

    F. KIN 4981 Understanding Kinesiology Research 3cr. Or KIN 5981 Research Methodology in Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport 3cr. (must be taken prior to KIN 5995)

    G. KIN 5995 Research Problems in Kinesiology 3 cr.  (must be taken in last semester, pre-requisite: KIN 4981or KIN 5981)

  2. Suggested Electives (8 credits)

    In consultation with adviser, select elective courses for a minimum total of eight (8) credits.  It is highly recommended that electives be selected from the following list; however, one (1) course can be selected from outside Kinesiology including for example, courses from the Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy and Development or Carlson School of Management.

    A. KIN 5111 Sport Facilities, 3 cr.

    B. KIN 5115 Event Management 3cr.

    C. KIN 5461 Foundations of Sport Management (required elective for students without a baseline knowledge of sport management)

    D. KIN 5371 Sport and Society, 3 cr.

    E. KIN 5511 Women in Sport and Leisure, 3 cr.

    F. KIN 5804 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Compliance, 2 cr.

    G. KIN 5720 Special Topics in Kinesiology
