Dr. Ito conducts research on non-visual perception and action. His projects include navigation in the blind, acoustic flow and postural control, and behavioral studies of dolphins.

Dr. Ito visited the HFRL in September, 2003, to work on joint projects with Dr. Stoffregen, focusing on audition and action. While at UM, Dr. Ito gave a talk on some of his current research, titled "Behavior of a harbor porpoise in an unfamiliar environment".
