Yawen joined the APAL in 2007. In her first year, she conducted a new study of exploratory movement in the perception of affordances for wheelchair locomotion. In December 2008 she and Dr. Stoffregen will conduct a field study of postural control, visual performance, and sea sickness aboard the R/V Thomas G. Thompson, in a cruise from Western Samoa to Tasmania.
