My academic interest centers around the study of whiteness in higher education. I draw upon articulations of feminist poststructuralism to inquire how discourses shape understandings and formulations of racial locations and the performance of race among university students. My current work focuses on individuals and groups who are ambiguously located along racial schema and seeks to trouble how discourses act upon bodies – and how bodies act upon discourses – to produce material effects.
In my current position at the University of Minnesota, I am able to carry out my commitment to equity in higher education by developing graduate student instructors across a range of courses offered in our undergraduate degree programs, teaching a social justice-minded course in the Leadership Minor, and coordinating the undergraduate student services function in our Department. I have instructional and administrative work experience within institutions of higher education in a variety of contexts, including U.S. and abroad, online and traditional campus-based configurations.
