Karla is the academic coordinator and instructor for the DirecTrack to Teaching program. DirecTrack allows select undergraduates to participate in a community of future educators, take graduate level education related coursework, and be guaranteed admission to CEHD’s initial licensure program. Karla teaches EdHD 3001 and 3002, Exploring the Teaching Profession I and II.
Karla has a long-standing relationship with the University of Minnesota, including the post-baccalaureate teaching licensure program (Russian and ESL), through which she also earned a M.Ed. In 2008 Karla earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum in Instruction, with a research emphasis on secondary English learners and statewide assessments.
Karla has also been affiliated with a local school district for 15+ years where she has taught and/or worked in the program for English learners. She is currently providing professional development that addresses the instructional needs of English language learners throughout the school system. She consults regularly for the Minnesota department of education and local school districts.
