CEHD America Reads | Tutors
Do you want to make a difference in your campus job?
Become a tutor!
If you have work-study funds and want to make a difference in the lives of children by helping them become independent readers, consider becoming an America Reads tutor.
What does tutoring involve?
- Attend a 3-hour training to learn practices and techniques related to literacy tutoring.
- Tutor in a classroom, one-on-one, or afterschool program setting with elementary aged children at a local school or community site.
- Work at least 2 shifts a week. Shifts are flexible.
- Attend a 1-credit, 1-year course for all new tutors to assist students in becoming more proactive, competent tutors and more aware, engaged community members.
Service Projects
Optional events held roughly once per month designed to allow tutors to participate in projects that serve to meet a need in the Twin Cities community in areas other than literacy.
Recognition Event
This celebration is an opportunity for America Reads staff to thank tutors for their hard work and dedication throughout the year, recognize outstanding efforts, as well as a chance for tutors to catch-up with one another and discuss highlights from the year.
