Gulu University (Uganda)
The
Institute of Child Development developed a partnership with
Gulu
University in 2009. Preliminary activities include mentoring of Gulu
students via videoconferencing technology and visits from ICD faculty
and staff to Gulu. Upcoming activities include planning and implementing
a series of studies around youth aggression, under the auspices of the
Acholi Research Partnership.
Hong Kong Institute of Education (China)
The
Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development developed a partnership with Hong Kong Institute of Education in 2009.
Both institutions are exploring the possibility of student exchanges and
jointly delivered degree programs.
St. Claret College (India)
CEHD
and St. Claret College of
Bangalore are collaborating around issues of innovation and leadership.
Specific activities for 2010 and beyond include lectures by CEHD faculty
at St. Claret conferences and workshops. The two institutions are also
collaborating on joint grant proposals to fund faculty and student
exchanges around civil society innovation and leadership in Bangalore.
Italian Institute of Technology (Italy)
Researchers from the Italian
Institute of Technology and CEHD’s
Department of Kinesiology are
engaged in research collaborations using high-tech equipment to better
understand the science of human movement and muscle control.
Muhammadiyah University Surakarta (Indonesia)
CEHD has teamed with
Muhammadiyah University Surakarta in Indonesia to propose collaborative M.Ed. degrees in Educational Leadership to the
Ministry of Higher Education in Indonesia. The cohort model program would allow lecturers from any of the over 100 Muhamadiyah University campuses
to transfer up to nine Masters-level credits taken at their home universities toward an M.Ed. degree from the University of Minnesota. The partnership proposal allows for cohorts of up to 20 to study in CEHD, both through customized courses and integrating in existing M.Ed. coursework.
This program is contingent on scholarship funding provided by Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education.
Mwenge University College of Education (Tanzania)
The
Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy, and
Development has paired to enact a “Teaching in Action” (TIA) program
with Mwenge, aimed at achieving improved pedagogy in Tanzanian schools.
Teaching in Action provides Tanzanian faculty members at Mwenge University
College of Education with an opportunity to participate in professional
development and learning communities designed to improve their teaching
and scholarship. The TIA activities designed for and with MWUCE
faculty offer them a venue in which to practice critical teaching and
learning strategies that they can implement in their classes with the
future high school teachers of Tanzania and as an in-service development
program.
Sukothai Thammatirat Open University (Thailand)
In 2011, CEHD and Sukothai
Thammatirat Open University re-affirmed a decades-old agreement
between the University of Minnesota and STOU to explore faculty
exchanges in the area of visiting scholars and lecturers. STOU
Vice President and Associate Professor Suchin Visavateeranon earned her
PhD in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
United States Peace Corps
CEHD’s
Youth Development Leadership (YDL) program has joined the
U.S. Peace Corps’ Masters International program as a partner school.
YDL students now have the option of taking a shortened program at the
University of Minnesota, then continuing independent and on-line studies
as Peace Corps volunteers around the world. Information on this program
can be found on the

promotional video produced by YDL.
University of Sao Paulo and University of Brasilia (Brazil)
The
Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development
and the University of Illinois (UIUC) have partnered together on a program
for undergraduate and graduate students to study abroad in Brazil at the
University of Sao Paulo (USP) in Sao Paulo or the University of Brasilia
(UnB) in Brasilia. The program is called Global Talent Development for
Sustainable Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, and is supported by
the U.S. Department of Education's
FIPSE (Fund for Improving Postsecondary Education) fund granted to
the University of Minnesota and to the UIUC for 2009 through 2012.

Nanyang Technological University's National Institute on Education (Singapore)
CEHD has partnered with the Nanyang Technological University's
National Institute on Education to explore collaborative
service-learning projects with CEHD and NIE students. NIE partners
include CEHD alumna
Vilma D'Rozario,
a Professor and Sub-Dean in the area of Educational Psychology and
Counseling. Further activities between NIE and CEHD's
Center for Early Education and
Development are slated for 2011 around early childhood development
research.
Graduate School of Education at the University of Melbourne (Australia)
CEHD has partnered with the Graduate School of Education
at the University of Melbourne to engage Somali populations in
Melbourne and Minnesota to enter the teaching profession and link to
service opportunities in Somalia.
Lublin Technical University in Poland
CEHD and Lublin Technical University in Poland have partnered to provide
collaborative coursework in the area of Human Resource Development (HRD)
to students from Lublin and other universities. The four-course package
will be facilitated through in-country visits in Poland by HRD faculty.
