Gamble-Skogmo Chair in Child Welfare and Youth Policy

Evidence Based Practice in Child Welfare in the Context of Cultural Competence

If you want to hold a similar meeting

You may wish to hold a meeting of your own to discuss bringing together evidence-based practice and cultural competence with the child welfare professionals and community members in your state or locality.

You will find the materials you need to do this at the Replicating the EBP/Cultural Competence Meeting page.

The two major components of this meeting were the bringing together of people

  1. who influence practice and policy in many different ways: legislation, judicial decisions, agency administration, supervision or practice, research, and community leaders and members, including, for example, service recipients
  2. from the same geographic areas who could plan future goals and tasks together as a result of meeting discussions.

The goal was to stimulate change through discussions with colleagues on

  1. issues facing each interest group, for example researchers, administrators, community members, etc. and
  2. issues in each locality such as a city, county or region.

The attendees included

  1. representatives of various interest groups who were not necessarily tied to a specific geographic region and
  2. teams from specific geographic areas.

See the intent and structure of the original meeting for more details about the June 11, 2007, meeting.

You may wish to hold a similar meeting. You could follow this template and pursue both goals listed above, or you may wish to choose a part of it for your own locality such as bringing together interest groups or regional teams.

The materials on this website may be used to conduct a meeting of your own. You may want to use only videos of the initial speakers, or you may want to use the speakers and panels but lead your own large group and small group discussions.

We have provided the templates and materials so that whatever your interest, the video, audio and documents can be adapted for use.

Be sure to plan the methods you will use to disseminate, publicize and follow up on the ideas from your meeting. See the document on planning the intent and structure of your meeting for more information (link).
