New Populations - Immigrants & Refugees

In 2001, Minnesota ranked 19th out of the 50 states for total legal immigrants. It has the highest proportion of refugees compared to total population in the U.S.
As of 2003 data, Minnesota hosted the largest population of Somali immigrants and the second highest population of Hmong. In some regions of Minnesota, immigrant and refugee population accounted for almost 57% of population growth during the 1990s.
