I was appointed as the Director of Field Instruction at the University of Minnesota School of Social Work in 2006. Previous involvement with the SSW included serving on the Field Advisory Committee, co-facilitating field seminars with faculty members, and serving as a field instructor. I greatly enjoy working with graduate students in the MSW program, and strive to help them have challenging, stimulating and supportive field placement experiences.
Before I came to the School of Social Work, I worked at Community-University Health Care Center (CUHCC) from 1984-2006. For several years, I was a clinical social worker in the mental health department. From 1991-2006, I had the privilege of serving as a supervisor in the Refugee & Immigrant Mental Health Program. Helping refugees and immigrants cope with the challenges of relocation and the effects of trauma was a focus of the program, predominantly staffed by providers from refugee and immigrant communities. While at CUHCC, I supervised many MSW students and developed my strong interest in, and passion for, field education.
