- Muhammad Haj-Yahia, PhD ('91), was in Minnesota to receive the University of Minnesota's 2009 Distinguished Leadership for Internationals Award. He spoke on his research into family violence in the Arab communities of Israel and Palestine. See flyer.

- Prof. Jane Gilgun and Alankaar Sharma spoke on Intervention Research: What Works, for Whom, Under What Conditions from Noon to 1pm in Peters Hall. In this presentation, Professor Gilgun and Mr. Sharma will discuss methods of documenting the dynamics of social services. The purpose of such research is to shine light on what has been the black box of intervention effectiveness and ineffectiveness. The seminar is based on research they have conducted on a child and family intervention program that is part of Ramsey County Human Services and Public Health Departments. - Lum and Lee hosted conference on health and mental health literacy among immigrants and refugees on May 22nd. Assoc. Prof. Terry Lum and Assist. Prof. Hee Lee were two of the hosts for a conference on health and mental health literacy and its impacts on disparities in immigrant and refugee communities.

- Kerala's Model of Development. Father George Mutholil, a Jesuit priest who has taught at the Loyola Institute of Social Sciences in Trivandrum, Kerala and is now a visiting professor at the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts. Father George spoke on June 10th at noon.
- The Shared Journey: Chronic Illness and the Aging Family in the 21st Century. Prof. Victoria Raveis of Columbia University spoke on Tuesday, June 16th, about her research on families and aging.
