Content area preadmission course requirements
Master of education/initial licensure in early childhood education and early childhood special education
Content area courses are prerequisites that must be completed or in progress at the time of M.Ed./ILP program admission.
Courses in the content area are required to meet the Standards of Effective Practice for Teachers (SEPT) and content standards adopted in 1998 by the Minnesota Board of Teaching: "The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and can create learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for students."

General psychology
PSY 1001—Introduction to Psychology (4 cr)
- or PSTL 1281—General Psychology (4 cr)
- or equivalent
Child psychology
CPSY 2301—Introductory Child Psychology (4 cr)
- or CPSY 3301—Introductory Child Psychology for Social Sciences (4 cr)
Mathematics
MATH 1031—College Algebra and Probability (3 cr)
The following course is recommended, not required (choose one):
EPSY 3264—Basic and Applied Statistics, MATH (3 cr)
- or PSTL 1004—Statistics, MATH (4 cr)
- or STAT 1001—Introduction to the Ideas of Statistics, MATH (4 cr)
- or PSY 2801—Introduction to Psychological Measurement and Data Analysis, MATH (3 cr)
