  Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI)

Required for all modern
languages if not a native speaker.
World Language candidates must
achieve a minimum rating of
Advanced Low. Non-native
speakers of English who are
candidates for ESL licensure must
achieve a rating of Superior.
Required w/ admission application
as candidate for a world language,
or for ESL if you are a non-native
speaker. If not completed prior to
admission, you are given
provisional admission but must
pass it by mid-Oct. to continue in
that language. 
  Completion of at least two upper-
division courses focusing on
development of advanced
grammar/composition skills (or a
related topic) in the language in
which licensure is sought
Prior to application

On rare occasions this requirement
may be waived if the candidate
provides evidence of advanced
grammar knowledge/writing skills
Praxis II content test for ESL

  Must be taken in advance of
applying for the license. The
optimal time is before or during
Spring semester of the program
Principles of Learning and Teaching
(PLT) – choose ONE
 

PLT Grades K-6 (min. score 159); or

PLT Grades 5-9 (min. score 155); or

PLT Grades 7-12 (min. score 157)
  Must be taken in advance of
applying for the license. The
optimal time is during Spring
semester of the program. Any of
the grade level options is
acceptable for receiving the K-12
license.
