in Dual Language and Immersion Education
This page outlines the requirements for the M.Ed. in SLC when combined with the 15-credit university certificate program in Dual Language and Immersion Education. The courses that appear in bold typeface below are the core requirements for the certificate. Note that all electives and course substitutions must be selected with faculty adviser approval.
M.Ed. Core Requirements
12 credits
- CI 5155—Contemporary Approaches to Instruction and Assessment (3 cr)
- CI 5177—Practical Research (3 cr) (to be taken toward end of program)
- CI 5186—School-Related Projects (3 cr) (to be taken at end of program)
- One course related to classroom
uses of technology,
e.g., CI 5351—Technology Tools for Educators (3 cr)
OR alternate course approved by advisor
(e.g., LgTT 5110 Technology in the Second Language Classroom)
SLC and Certificate Requirements
12 credits
- CI 5651—Foundations of Second Languages and Cultures Education (3 cr)
- CI 5656—Reading and Writing in a Second Language (3 cr)
- CI 5671—Content-Based Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (3 cr)
- CI 5672—Language-Focused Instructional Practices and Strategies (3 cr)
Electives

For the Certificate in Dual Language and Immersion Education, the following electives are recommended and also count toward the M.Ed. Others should be selected in consultation with adviser.
