About Kirsten
Kirsten Collins started out as a TRiO student in General College in 1998, and earned a B.A. in Women's Studies from the U of M in 2003. After graduation she spent two years as an AmeriCorps volunteer in California, working in the fields of hunger-relief and domestic violence.
Kirsten has a graduate certificate in Academic Advising from Kansas State University, as well as a graduate certificate in Teaching Adult Learners and an M.A. in Adult Education from Portland State University (PSU) in Oregon. During her time at PSU she worked as a graduate research assistant and advisor/mentor for the Students First Mentoring Program, a program serving first-generation students. Most recently she was an instructor for TRiO supplementary instruction courses at Augsburg’s summer bridge program. Academic interests include class as a form of diversity, creating inclusive learning environments, and working-class studies curriculum (i.e. art, literature, labor history). In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, anything crafty or artistic, riding her bike, and travel.
