Requirements for admission consideration to the major
- 60 credits completed or in progress at the time of application
- 2.5 minimum GPA (2.8 strongly preferred)
- Experience with young children

General psychology and child psychology completed or in progress and at least one half of Content Areas 2-6 completed or in progress:
Content Area 1: Basic requirements (2 courses)
- General psychology
- Introductory child psychology
- One year of college-level second language (strongly recommended, but not required)
Content Area 2: Language and Communication (3 courses)
- Speech communication
- Linguistics
- Language development and communication
Content Area 3: Mathematics (2 courses)
- Statistical reasoning
- College algebra
Content Area 4: Science (3 courses)
- Biological science w/lab
- Physical science w/lab
- Science elective
Content Area 5: Social Studies (3 courses)
- Diversity in the U.S.
- American history
- Human geography
Content Area 6: Communication Arts and Literature (4 courses)
- American literature
- Children's literature
- Arts and humanities elective
