Traditional degree and licensure programs
UNDERGRADUATE
Undergraduate (bachelor of science—B.S.)
Classes and programs to begin your career in education or human
development. A few programs will lead to teacher licensure.
Undergraduate minors can complement your major area of study.
Undergraduate programs and admissions
LICENSURE AND PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMS
Master of education (M.Ed.)/initial licensure
These programs prepare teachers for preK-12 schools by preparing to
fulfill requirements for state of Minnesota teaching licensure.
Applicants must have already completed an undergraduate degree.
Master of education (M.Ed.)/professional studies
These are professional development programs for teachers or
education-related professionals in the education field. Programs
emphasize applied coursework and most include a field-based experience.
Applicants must have already completed an undergraduate degree.
Additional licensure areas
These programs prepare teachers in additional licensure areas for
Minnesota K-12 schools. Applicants must already have Minnesota teaching
licensure in at least one area.
Licensing
for educational administrators
Highly individualized program to prepare aspiring administrators for one
or more of the four administrative licenses: K-12 principal,
superintendent, director of special education, and director of community
education.
ADVANCED DEGREES (M.A., M.S.W., PH.D., and ED.D.)
Research-focused programs, which include the master of arts (M.A.), master of social work (M.S.W.), doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.), and doctor of education (Ed.D.) degrees.
Specialist certificate
Two-year programs are offered in
school psychological
services and special
education.
Non-traditional programs
Certificates
Shorter, concentrated courses of study in specific program areas for
additional credentials and professional advancement.
Continuing professional studies
(Preparation to Practice Group)
Just the courses education practitioners need, including CEUs and
on-site training.
Coursework for non-degree seeking
students
Individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree may register for any unrestricted course, even though they have not been
formally admitted to a degree program.
