Fred and Earline Estes Family Scholarship

Criteria: This scholarship was established to encourage and support low-income students who would enhance diversity within the University. A plus factor will be given to African-American students who are making academic progress in the College.

Jim and Karyn Goldstein Scholarship

Amount: $1000

Criteria: This scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate students who have completed their first year in the College and are continuing their education towards a degree. Students registered with Disability Services are eligible.

Homegrown Teacher Partnership Project (HTPP) Service Scholarships

Amount: Scholarships of up to $1,200 each
Deadline: Application packets must be postmarked by April 27, 2007.

Criteria: Applicants must be students from culturally diverse backgrounds admitted to a pre-teaching program through CEHD undergraduate programs. Applicants must have 60 credits completed or in progress at the time of application, have a preferred cumulative University of Minnesota GPA of 2.80 or above, and demonstrate a commitment to community service and serving diverse populations. Award recipients must perform at least 30 hours of service to the College as mentors to K-12 students from diverse backgrounds. Read more about the Homegrown Teacher Partnership Project.

Multicultural Recognition Award

Amount: Up to two (2) awards of $1000 may be given.
Deadline: February 29, 2008 by 4:00 p.m.
Award date: Recipient(s) will receive a $1000.00 award and a certificate presented at the CEHD Awards and Recognition event on April 24, 2008.

Purpose
This award recognizes significant professional or extracurricular contributions to and promotion of multicultural relations and perspectives.

Eligibility
CEHD staff, advisers, faculty, graduate, or undergraduate students who deserve recognition for their outstanding multicultural efforts.

Criteria
Nominations are invited for individuals who, as a part of their professional or extracurricular work, have made outstanding multicultural efforts to the CEHD community in the following areas of impact:

Advising
Community outreach
Curriculum
Mentoring
Staff, faculty or adviser development
Student development and advocacy

Nomination Documentation
Individuals who are not specialists in the nominee's field will read the nomination materials. Successful nominations document how the experiences of the nominee meet the criteria of the award. Five complete sets and the original, in 12 point font and with one-inch margins, of the following documentation are required:

A nomination letter of no more than three pages advocating for and interpreting the case for why this individual has demonstrated the award criteria and addressing nominator’s relationship to and history with the nominee. Nominees may not nominate themselves.
Nominee's abbreviated professional vita, made pertinent to the award criteria and including appointment and years of service in CEHD, GC, or CHE. Vita should be a maximum of three pages (Vita or resume will not be reviewed if it is more than three pages).
No more than a total of two letters from students, faculty, staff, or alumni, which demonstrate how the nominee meets the criteria for the award (make sure the relationship between letter writer and nominee is clear). Each letter should be no more than two pages.

Selection Process
Nominations will be reviewed by the CEHD Honors and Awards work group, which will make a recommendation to the dean, who will make the final decision.

Rodney S. Wallace Endowed Scholarship

Amount: Up to four awards of a minimum of $2,500 each

Criteria: This scholarship is available to Native American students who have demonstrated academic achievement and leadership ability in education. Preference is given as follows: 1) Native Americans residing in Minnesota; 2) non-resident Native Americans; 3) other racial minorities; 4) other disadvantaged students. Undergraduates enrolled in the College of Education and Human Development and graduate students admitted to CEHD degree programs are eligible to apply. Past recipients are eligible to reapply.

Common Ground Consortium (CGC) Awards

Amount: Tuition reimbursement and educational stipend

Criteria: Applicants must be students of culturally diverse backgrounds planning to graduate from one of several Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) in the CGC consortium who wish to enroll in one of the College of Education and Human Development’s graduate programs.

master of education (M.Ed.)/professional studies
master of arts (M.A.)
doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.)
doctor of education (Ed.D.)

Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Diversity Scholarship

Amount: Up to $10,000 each

Award date: Distributed in three installment payments - summer, fall, and spring terms

Criteria: Students from culturally diverse backgrounds admissible to the family education (family and consumer sciences) M.Ed./initial licensure program.

In a personal statement describe your cultural background, explain why you are applying, and what makes you a worthy recipient of this scholarship. Holmes Scholar

Amount: Award can include financial support (i.e., fellowship, scholarship, tuition waiver, etc., full financial support to attend The Holmes Partnership Annual Conference (including appropriate land and air transportation, hotel accommodations, meals, and other related expenses), a stipend for professional development activities and materials, mentoring support.

Criteria: Individuals selected as Holmes Scholars should be doctoral students or students pursuing a terminal degree in the field. Applicants must already have a GA position to apply for this award. These individuals should be nominated during their first year (preferably in their second semester) and begin their Scholar status at the beginning of the second year of their doctoral or terminal degree program.

Are members of groups under-represented in the education professoriate or in the education field
Intend to be or are engaged in teacher education (pre-service and/or in-service OR are engaged in fields/specializations with a clear school-based focus (e.g., school psychology, educational administration, educational technology)
Demonstrate a commitment to equity and diversity
Agree to work in Professional Development Schools or other school/university/community/business collaborative partnership arrangements

Isabel Graham Giddings Scholarship

Amount: Up to three awards at $5,000 are available
Deadline: Awards will be given as part of the admissions process into the M.Ed./initial licensure program, or by application (see below) by April 1, 2008.

Criteria: Female students entering M.Ed./initial licensure programs will be considered for this award as part of the admissions process or by application (see below). Upon the donor’s request, one scholarship will be awarded to an African-American female student, and one will be awarded to a female student (preferably from an underrepresented population). This award is granted to a student who shows professional promise.

Multicultural Teacher Development Project (MTDP) Award

Amount: Awards up to $5,000 each

Criteria: The Multicultural Teacher Development Project is a statewide project funded by the College of Education and Human Development that supports the College effort to recruit, retain, and graduate students of culturally diverse backgrounds in K-12 licensure programs. The MTDP Award funds full-time M.Ed./initial licensure students.

AIGC Fellowship for Native American Graduate Students

Amount: This program funds graduate education for American Indian and Alaska Native college graduates. The funding amount is based on your unmet need as determined by your financial aid office. AIGC does not fund for the full amount of your unmet need.

Application: Applications are available from January through the end of May every academic year.

Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation (ELA) Scholarship

Amount: $500 to $2,000

Description: The Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation (ELA) Scholarship is available to women with physical disabilities currently enrolled or actively applying to a graduate program in an accredited college or university in the United States. You must be active in a local, state or national disability organization to qualify. In addition to the application, you must provide documentation/verification of your disability, two letters of recommendation, your college/university transcript and an essay. Deadline is June 1. Additional requirements can be found on the Web site.

Gates Millennium Scholars Program

Amount: Up to four years of full financial support

Award date: Scholars will be notified of their awards in May

KarMel Scholarship

Amount: $300-400

Description: The KarMel Scholarship is available to seniors in high school seniors and undergraduate and graduate students who are attending or planning to attend a college, university or vocational/trade school in the United States. You must submit an artistic or written themed work that expresses your views on the gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender topic to be eligible for this award. However, you do not need to be gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender to apply. Deadline is March 31.

Minnesota Indian Scholarship

Amount: The award amount is based on need up to $3,300 per year for undergraduate students, and up to $6,600 for graduate students.
Deadline: The priority deadline is July 1.

Contact: Get Ready for College

Criteria: Applicants must have one-fourth or more Indian ancestry, be a resident of Minnesota and a member of a federally recognized Indian tribe, a high school graduate or have a GED certificate, able to benefit from an advanced education, accepted by an approved college, university, or vocational school in Minnesota, and eligible to receive Pell or State Grant funds.

Application: Interested students should complete the FAFSA. Eligible students should also complete an application for tribal education funds. See Get Ready for College's Web site for more details.

Page Foundation

Amount: Scholarships range from $1,000 to $2,500 per school year depending on school expenses and individual needs and are granted for one school year at a time, although students may reapply each year.

Criteria: The Page Foundation offers scholarships to students of color (African-American, Asian American, Hispanic, Native-American, etc.) who show a financial need and demonstrate a positive attitude toward education and community. Recipients of the Page Foundation Scholarships are required to fulfill a service-to-children contract that brings them into contact with kindergarten through eighth grade students of color. Projects vary from tutoring at elementary, middle or junior high schools or reading to young children, to being a big buddy, mentor, etc. However, there must be an academic focus to the service project. Page Scholars are expected to spend two hours each week of the school year on the service project totaling fifty hours per year.

To be eligible for a scholarship from PFund you must be:

GLBT or from a GLBT family
A legal resident of the state of Minnesota or attending a qualified Minnesota academic institution
Enrolled in a GED or post-secondary program for the following fall academic term
Not a former PFund scholarship winner

Point Foundation Scholarship

Description: The Point Foundation Scholarship is available to students attending, or planning to attend, an institute of higher education who are underprivileged and/or have been socially marginalized -- principally by reason of sexual orientation. You must demonstrate proven leadership skills, excellent scholastic achievements and desire to make a difference in the world. You must also submit two to three letters of recommendation and a copy of your current transcript with your application to be eligible for this award. All applicants are evaluated on the totality of their situation including, academic accomplishments, financial, emotional and social need, extracurricular activities, personal circumstances and goals for the future. Deadline is March 1.

Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans

Description: The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans provides grants for up to two years of graduate study in the United States in any professional field (e.g., engineering, medicine, law, social work, etc.) or scholarly discipline in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. The fine and performing arts are included. For the purpose of this application a New American is defined as: 1) a resident alien (i.e., holds a Green Card); or 2) has been naturalized as a U.S. citizen; or 3) is the child of two parents who are both naturalized citizens. The applicant must either have a bachelor's degree or be in her/his final year of undergraduate study. Those who have a bachelor's degree may already be pursuing graduate study and may receive fellowship support to continue that study. Individuals who are in the third, or subsequent, year of study in the same graduate program are not, however, eligible for the competition.
