A student's perspective
Teresa Smock explains why she chose the College of Education
and Human Development and talks about studying with professors who "wrote the
book."
Video transcript
I chose this school because it was surrounded by diversity. I love being in
the
cities. I love living here. I wanted really to learn from
professors who are
leading their fields in their specific area.
When I had to take a science class,
I took it from Roger Johnson who is a huge guru in
cooperative learning and so I
got to learn first hand from him how to do cooperative learning in groups
successfully and different aspects I could use of that. And then I would take
another class and they would refer to this cooperative learning and there’d be
articles by Roger Johnson and his brother.
I had lots of projects that I was
able to focus on diverse cultures. I did my master’s project on homelessness in
education and how mainstream teachers can really reach out to out to homeless
students and help them better.
So I’m very excited ’cause I don’t want to… I’m
very glad I’m not a teacher going in there going, you know, I hope I can just
manage this class. I’m looking forward to sharing all the ideas that I gained
here at the University. |
