TRiO Upward Bound Scholarships
MINNESOTA I HAVE A DREAM SCHOLARSHIP (KAREN STERNAL & BILL LAHR)
- Awarded to eligible TRiO UB students annually for a maximum of four years while enrolled in high school and in TRiO UB Program.
- Qualifications during UB Program: A UB student must meet eligibility requirements and successfully complete (as defined by UB) the following for each year of UB participation:
- UB Academic Year (AY) components and Individual Study, if required.
- UB Summer Academic & Residential Program including an approved bridge program, or an approved UB Regional Math & Science program.
- Other required summer initiatives such as the Outward Bound Wilderness Excursion or College Tour, based on class year.
- Award is paid out to students who qualify for the Dream Scholarship and graduate from UB in their senior year of high school (i.e. completing the senior academic year AND summer Bridge component) upon the completion of their first year at a post-secondary institution.

- 2.5 Grade Point Average for Fall and Spring Semesters, and Cumulative
- Scholarship amounts earned will be DOUBLED for students enrolled in a post-secondary Math or Science program. Programs that satisfy this requirement include, but are not limited to, Health Science, Computer Science, Math, and Engineering. Completion of basic college distribution requirements in math and science does not qualify for this benefit.
- The doubled amount will be paid during the student’s junior and senior years of post-secondary education after proof of official enrollment in a math or science degree granting program is provided. A letter from a college advisor confirming acceptance and enrollment status is required.
- A portion of the doubled amount will be paid upon receipt of a college or university transcript demonstrating successful completion (as defined by item 4 above) of each year’s math or science program coursework.

- Scholarship funds will only be released for educational purposes, e.g. tuition, books, and other expenses approved by Upward Bound.
- Students who are released from the UB Program during high school for any reason are disqualified from the Dream Scholarship and FORFEIT any funds earned as part of the scholarship.
- If the student does not use any of their scholarship funds during the first five years following high school graduation, the balance will remain in the escrow account.
- All scholarship funds will be FORFEITED AFTER the SIX YEARS following high school graduation.
