Greetings to all reading this! I am very excited to be part of the College of Education and Human Development family as an Academic Adviser. Originally, I am from the East Coast, born and raised in New England, specifically Massachusetts. The journey to Minnesota was not easy and took a 22-hour drive, but it was well worth it! My undergraduate and graduate work both happened at my alma mater, the University of Massachusetts Amherst. At UMass, I earned a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Spanish and a Master’s of Education in Higher Education Administration. After graduate school, I moved next door to Connecticut where I worked three years in Residential Life at the University of Connecticut. In my three years there, I also did academic advising and worked collaboratively with campus partners to program around issues of social justice and diversity. I collaborated to create programs like a Latinas in Power Series and a campaign on promoting positive body image. I have a love for large state schools and a passion for advising students which is why I am happy to have ended up here!
In my advising role, I hope to educate, challenge and support students. My approach to advising is really individualized and student centered. I hope to honor student’s individual experiences and acknowledge their identities in and out of my office.
When I am not working, you can find me enjoying great food. Whether I am cooking it or out eating, I love all the flavors the world has to offer. My ethnic background is Dominican (Dominican Republic) so indulging in great Caribbean cuisines is a must for me! You can also find me dancing to Latin rhythms and anything that just moves the soul, like Zumba classes! I see myself as a compass in the journey of our students.
Hasta pronto (see you soon),
