New Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy and Development
Effective July 1, 2009, a new department has been created that integrates the business and marketing education, human resource development and adult education, and comprehensive WHRE programs from the Department of Work and Human Resource Education (WHRE) into the department formerly known as Educational Policy and Administration (EdPA). The name of this new department is Organizational Leadership, Policy and Development (OLPD). Accommodation Specialist for Students with Disabilities Additional Licensure

Admission

If you are seeking the Accommodation Specialist for Students with Disabilities Licensure you may apply for admission to the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) additional licensure programs. You may also fulfill requirements for this license if you are applying or currently admitted to another program in the College.

Degree

In order to apply for the Accommodation Specialist for Students with Disabilities licensure, you must have earned a degree from a regionally accredited college or university in one of the following areas:

  • Baccalaureate or master’s degree in education
  • Baccalaureate or master’s degree in special education
  • Baccalaureate degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling
  • Graduate degree in career and technical education/vocational education with special population specialization

Required Courses

In order to fulfill requirements for the Accommodation Specialist for Students with Disabilities licensure, you must successfully complete the following courses: (aligned to MNBOT licensure rules part 8710.5900):

  • WHRE—5511 Education for Work (required of all students seeking this licensure) (3 cr)
  • WHRE—5521 Work-Based Learning Policies (2 cr)
  • WHRE—5522 Work-Based Learning Practices (3 cr)
  • WHRE—5802 Enhancing Work-Based Learning through Collaboration (2 cr)
  • EPsy—5604 Transition From School to Work and Community Living for Persons With Special Needs (3 cr)
  • Students requesting course equivalency for WHRE—5521, WHRE—5522, WHRE—5802, or EPsy—5604 must enroll in one credit of WHRE—5993 Directed Study. See Board Rule 8710.5900.

Within the framework of a directed study, the student will develop a portfolio in which he/she documents scholarship and accomplishment in each of the content standards embedded in the course(s) for which equivalency has been requested. The documentation will include transcripts, course descriptions and syllabi, and exemplars from work experience such as samples of curriculum, project reports, presentations, etc. The instructor for the directed study will judge the documentation and will approve or deny the course equivalency.

Additional Licensure Requirements

According to Minnesota Board of Teaching rules, these additional requirements must also be met in order to become licensed as an Accommodation Specialist for Students with Disabilities:

  • Successful completion of a Minnesota Board of Teaching (BOT) approved preparation program leading to licensure in the overall field of Career and Technical Education under part 8700.7600. This may include programs such as agricultural education, business and marketing education, family and consumer sciences education, industrial education, as well as licensure in career and technical education under part 8710.8000.
  • Successful completion of a Minnesota BOT approved special education preparation program.
  • Licensure in special education under Minnesota BOT licensure rules, part 8710.5100, 8710.5200, 8710.5300, 8710.5400, 8710.5600, 8710.5700, 8710.5800.

Additional Licensure Completion

To be recommended for additional licensure as an Accommodation Specialist for Students with Disabilities, you must complete all program requirements, as verified by the program coordinator. Licensure application procedures can be found at:

Licensure Application Procedures

In order to complete the additional licensure process students must have the following items on file at Student Services:

  1. Application to the additional licensure program [PDF file]
  2. Official transcripts from all institutions you have previously attended
  3. A copy of current teaching license
  4. Copy of signed additional licensure contract

Additionally, students must submit the following to apply for licensure in Minnesota:

  1. Completed application for Minnesota teaching/administrative license.
  2. Applicant Conduct Review Statement
  3. Check/money order payable to the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE)
  4. Licensure renewal form (if you wish to renew your current license at this time)
  5. Finger print card and money order for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) (required only for individuals seeking an initial license in special education, parent education, or adult basic education)
  6. Official University of Minnesota transcript in a sealed envelope.

State mandated tests will be required of additional licensure applicants if seeking a license in a new content area.
