The University of Minnesota Child Development Center, UMCDC, was founded in 1974. Our center is licensed by the state of Minnesota and has national accreditation through NAEYC, the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
What We Do
UMCDC is a model demonstration and training site for early development with research opportunities to further the knowledge of early development, education, and quality care for young children. Our center provides a “fee-for-service” childcare and enrichment program for University of Minnesota affiliated staff, faculty and students. We care for 140 children, ages 3 months to 5 ½ years old.
- Our facility includes an on-site commercial kitchen that allows our cook to prepare both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes for the children
- Our foyer, courtyard, “Back 40”, outdoor play yards, flex room, multi-purpose room, mudrooms, atrium, and research suite are all auxiliary spaces devised for shared use
- Playground and large outdoor recreation area, both of which are secluded from traffic
