Board member testimonials

We spoke to our current board members about the reason behind their involvement with CEHD Alumni Society and why they feel so strongly about its mission. From personal connections, to a passion for investing in their future, to holding the door open for the next generation of leaders, they voiced how CEHD is playing an integral role in Minnesota and beyond.

Take a look at what they had to say:

As a graduate student, I am always trying to find a way to get involved in schoolwork other than limiting myself in academia. Thus, become a member of the CEHD Alumni Association Board is a great way to 1) observe how the system works in the university level (e.g., how to operate an organization), 2) learn what role the university relation committee plays, 3) amplify messages from UMN Advocates, and 4) contact individual legislators about UMN’s impact on the state and encourage others to do the same. Last year was the first year that I served the board, and I have learned so much information from UMN advocates as well as the Minnesota House of Representatives. In my opinion, this is such a unique and precious opportunity to stay informed about politics, higher education, and the legislative process. We want our voice to be heard so we need to take action and share our U of M story with legislators so they can see the great influence the U of M has.

I was first introduced to the CEHD Alumni Society Board through my leadership role on the CEHD Undergraduate Student Board and loved that many of our college-wide events were the same!  I loved the idea that current students could connect not only with other students and faculty/staff at the college, but also that we could connect with alumni from the college.  My favorite event is Homecoming for the CEHD Tailgate to connect with students and alumni and then walking together in the parade.  School spirit and making lasting relationships with people has a special place in my heart, as I was an out-of-state student from New Hampshire and the University of Minnesota became my second home (now my permanent home!).

I joined the CEHD Alumni Board because CEHD alumni are all over the world, and we need to stay connected with one another to keep CEHD strong, to promote our collective accomplishments and to help to recruit the next generation of leaders!
