Online autism spectrum disorder certificate

According to the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network (ADDM), approximately 1 out of 54 children in the U.S. has a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Minnesota has the third highest prevalence of ASD in the country with 1 in every 44 children with an ASD diagnosis. The University of Minnesota is a recognized leader in the field of ASD with the MN ADDM Network, the MN LEND Program, and the Division of Clinical Behavioral Neuroscience.
Meet the growing demand for professionals in this field. Students in our now fully online ASD certificate program are trained to assist children and youth with ASD and their families.
Fully online coursework
This program is designed for both undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students. Undergraduate and international students wishing to complete the certificate must be admitted to a degree program at the U of M Twin Cities campus.
As a student in the ASD certificate program, you’ll receive specialized training in assessment, intervention, and treatment evaluation. You’ll leave the program equipped with the most effective instructional and behavioral methods for working with individuals with ASD from infancy to age 21. Additional areas of focus include: ethical issues related to treatment delivery, the need for supervision by qualified professionals, and the limits of candidates’ individual skills.
Please note: The certificate program is designed primarily for related service professionals (i.e., speech-language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, medical professionals, social workers) and educational professionals who would like to gain additional content knowledge about working with individuals with ASD. While the program does not prepare you to be a licensed teacher in the field of ASD, it does provide a focused set of expertise and an additional credential. Completion of the ASD certificate may stand alone or be embedded into other teacher licensure or MEd or BS degree programs in special education or any other degree program at the University of Minnesota with minimal additional coursework.

This program has been a great opportunity for me to continue my knowledge and passion for ASD. Working through these classes virtually has allowed me to collaborate with so many people and get a wide range of opinions that has helped me get different perspectives. Finding unique ways for all of us students to work together online is what has made this program exciting and productive for me and my learning.
