Biography

My scholarship focuses on the role of health equity and mental health promotion in the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. I also conduct research on resilience-building strategies with youth and sibling groups in out-of-home care. I have a broad background in intervention and services research and practice with children and families who were at-risk or involved with the child welfare system, and I have worked as Principal or Co-Investigator on several university, foundation, and federally funded research grants. I am trained in clinical trials methodology, program evaluation, mixed-methods research, and multivariate and advanced statistical analysis. From 2015-2022 I led an international multi-site intervention study with siblings separated by out-of-home care. More recently, I developed an adaptive just-in-time telephone and web-mediated family navigator intervention for families of children at-risk of mental illness, child maltreatment, and other adverse childhood experiences. Across projects, my work aims to improve the health and well-being of children and families, and to elucidate the mechanisms underlying how interventions work, for whom, and under what conditions.
