Ah has 13 years of experience in nonprofit and higher education with a specific focus on educational equity work through leadership development in multicultural and underserved populations. Growing up in the Twin Cities as a first-generation American born Hmong woman, with parents who were refugees, has rooted Ah in her cultural identity and has provided her with motivation toward social justice. This was further solidified during her time in Portland, Oregon, while working with the immigrant and refugee population. As such, Ah feels most alive when working within the community of young people with diverse backgrounds. Her first interaction with TRIO started when she volunteered to coordinate the tutoring room for Upward Bound & Educational Talent Search at Portland State University in Portland, OR. Since then, she has been intentional in developing youth in spaces where they can grow and create agency.
Ah is also a proud U of M Twin Cities alumnae where she received her BS and MEd in elementary education. In her free time, she enjoys spending it with her three boys and husband watching movies, sewing Hmong “paj ntaub”, and engaging in kid-friendly outdoor activities.
