About me

Hello! My name is Anthony Albecker and I am originally from Chicago, IL. I received an M.A. in communications from the University of Wisconsin-Superior and a masters certificate in postsecondary developmental education from the University of Minnesota. My professional and academic interests revolve around issues of access and retention of first-generation and underrepresented student populations in higher education (and across the educational spectrum for that matter). I feel it important to share that this passion is a result of being a first-generation college student and being in foster care. In addition to realizing these pursuits through advising and teaching, my recent advocacy, professional presentations and publications are geared towards providing advisors and faculty tools to help students develop self-advocacy skills and on the concept of universal instructional design in higher education settings.

My hobbies include reading, sports (especially following Chicago teams), civic engagement, eating, and construction/woodworking. I play basketball, run marathons, bike and try to spend as much time around large bodies of water. Above all else, I enjoy spending time with my family.
