About me

Hi! My name is Linda Vang Kim and I am looking forward to being your academic advisor! I have worked at the University of Minnesota since 2007 in different departments including the Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence (MCAE) and Student Unions and Activities (SUA). Before joining the College of Education and Human Development, I was an academic advisor in the College of Design for three years.

Born and raised in St. Paul, MN, I have always stayed close to home. I received my undergraduate degree in American Studies from Carleton College in Northfield, MN and then attended the University of Minnesota for my Masters in Education Policy and Administration.

As a first-generation college student, I appreciated the support of staff members who helped me navigate through the complexities of higher education. They made me feel welcome, answered questions I had, and even helped me figure out questions I didn’t even know to ask. Whether or not you are a first-generation student, I am here to support you through your college journey. I enjoy problem-solving and helping students develop realistic plans to reach their goals.

Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, camping, being outdoors, and finding new and fun things to experience with my family. I also moonlight as mom to Lucy, Eunice, and Elliot.

We are committed to providing a comfortable, inclusive, and respectful environment for all members of our communities. If there is information you feel would be helpful for us to know, including disability or other accommodation needs, I invite you to share it with me directly or let the front desk know when you schedule an appointment.
