What gets you excited about work?

Working with young adult and youth volunteers. Watching them give back to their community affirms that the next generation holds responsibility and accountability for not only themselves, but those around them. The volunteers I work with are tremendous. It is incredible to see people from all over Minnesota reach out to donate their time and support. We have a large population of volunteers from the University of Minnesota as well. Many of them start with us as freshmen and stay throughout their collegiate career and beyond.

What professors were most influential during your time in CEHD?

William Goodman was my advisor and professor for Preparation for Working with Families. Over the years, I really enjoyed the way he was able to get students engaged and debating topics. Sometimes discussions became heated amongst the group, but it was a positive experience and very insightful!

What is a good book you would recommend to others?

The Book Thief. It is a great reminder how precious our freedom is and how powerful doing the right thing can be. One person really can make a difference.

What is a "fun fact" about you?

I have completed three half marathons, the Ragnar Relay, and the Warrior Dash. Even though the Warrior Dash was a 5k race, it was much harder than a long distance run.

What was the impact and benefit of your experience in CEHD?

I had always wanted to find a career helping others and CEHD was the perfect college to help me make that happen. Learning about family dynamics, gender roles, and relationships has helped me in my personal life as well.
