In the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD), we’re committed to improving lives in all we do, including your life as a new college student. Each year, we welcome an average of only 500 incoming freshmen. Follow your passion, find your major

CEHD offers 10 majors centered around our commitment to improving lives and helping others at various stages of life. As a CEHD student you’ll complete work in the classroom as well as in our community and workforces across the Twin Cities.


Education

Early childhood

Become a licensed early childhood education teacher for ages birth to third grade. Earn your teaching license in your fifth graduate year or work in educational settings where a teaching license is not required.

Elementary education

Become an elementary school teacher for kindergarten through sixth grade. This four-year bachelor’s degree will prepare you to earn your teaching license and master’s degree in your fifth year.

Special education

Teach students with mild-moderate disabilities in kingergarten through 12th grade. You'll earn your bachelor's degree and teaching license in four years.


Business education

Business and marketing education

A degree in Business and Marketing Education (BME) prepares you for a variety of careers, from positions in Fortune 500 companies, entrepreneurial startups, and international organizations, to nonprofit management. You will take courses in sales and marketing to gain a broad set of business skills.

Human resource development

As a Human Resource Development (HRD) major, you will gain the skills you need to offer workplace training and contribute to organizational development in a variety of public and private organizations. You may also choose a supporting program in an area of interest, such as management, communications, or industrial/organizational psychology.

Wellness and health

Kinesiology

Study the physical, biological, and social sciences related to the study of physical activity and human movement. You'll gain knowledge and experience related to physical activity and human movement within contexts such as exercise, health and lifestyle, and sport.

Sports management

Work with professional, collegiate, or community sports and athletic organizations. Gain knowledge and experience in the many aspects of sport, enabling them to find a career path that will excite and challenge them.

Physical activity and health promotion

Help individuals and families increase physical activity and improve healthy lifestyles to prevent and delay disease. Prepare for careers in health coaching, worksite wellness, physical activity adherence, corporate fitness, and more.

Social sciences

Family social science

Earn your bachelor's degree studying families and interpersonal relationships. This major integrates well with other programs, so you can design a unique path that works for you.


Youth studies

Learn about youth as an idea across time, place and community; about young people as they experience their everyday lives; and about youth work or the various approaches and practices involved in working with young people.

First-year experience

The First Year Experience is a unique curriculum required for first year students that's designed to help you find your community at the U of M and transition from high school into college.


Student-centered advising

You’ll be assigned an advisor at orientation and will work with them until you graduate. Our advisors understand you have unique, intersecting identities and will work to support you in a holistic way.

CEHD has a dedicated Career Services team who will work with you to connect you to your future career.
