My dream is to assist people who are struggling with comorbid chronic pain and mental health difficulties. I want to earn a Ph.D. to make a difference through clinical practice while also having the option to conduct research or teach in the future.

A Scoping Review of Gender-Based Public Harassment in the United States

Abstract:

Sexual harassment research has focused on non-public locations, which has left gender-based public harassment understudied despite its pervasiveness. We are conducting a scoping review to synthesize the empirical literature on gender-based harassment in public places in the US (e.g., streets, stores, transportation). Our focus is on the definition, measurement, prevalence, and outcomes of this phenomenon. The PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews (Tricco et al., 2018) informed our study. Ten databases were searched to identify literature, yielding 7,367 titles and abstracts, of which 345 full-text documents were reviewed for eligibility. Sixty-five documents referenced gender-based public harassment, were empirical, and were conducted in the US, meeting inclusion criteria. Citation tracking of the 65 documents yielded an additional 3,234 titles and abstracts, of which 362 met criteria for a full-text review and 50 met inclusion criteria. Title and abstract screening is in progress for 986 new documents. Eligible documents will be coded for relevant information using a data charting form.
