TRIO SSS receives Department of Education continuation grant

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) was successful in the 2026-31 Department of Education grant competition, receiving a continuation grant for the next five years starting this September. The Department of Education received 1,702 eligible applications and awarded 962 grants to two- and four-year colleges and universities nationwide.

“TRIO SSS is grateful to the support that CEHD overall provides that enhances and ensures TRIO student success,” said TRIO SSS Director Consuelo Gutierrez-Crosby. “Thank you to the advisors, staff, and faculty for your engagement, whether it is behind-the-scenes administrative work, programming and events, advising and mentoring, advocacy, or scholarships. I would like to especially highlight the hard work and dedication of the TRIO SSS team that includes professional staff and student leaders. They are the glue that holds our program together and deserve a shout out.”

TRIO SSS supports Pell-eligible, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities overcome barriers to higher education. Of the TRIO SSS students in CEHD:

  • 96 percent meet or exceed a 2.0 GPA. In the past academic year, 30 students made the dean’s list both fall and spring semesters
  • 95 percent persist each academic year
  • 71 percent graduate within six years
