Graduate education in CEHD

The College of Education and Human Development is home to a wide array of professional programs and academic disciplines that together study the whole person in context. We research how people learn and grow and how they feel capable and secure in their work, fulfilled in their family lives, and satisfied in their health and wellbeing.

Our curriculum will challenge you to do things like personally affect how people create equity in classrooms and work spaces, tackle health concerns through a community-based approach, investigate the role of trauma in children’s mental health, or provide knowledge and tools to build family resilience.

What our students have to say:

I am driven to give opportunities to the next generation—to kids—to have a shot to succeed. It has been a joyful experience to be a student. I want to open the doors for all of the talent that is out there.

Our programs

Our degrees and programs are looking forward. We prepare you for a rapidly changing world. All of CEHD’s graduate programs are imbued with our own original research. In CEHD, you will study with experienced researchers working on the forefront of knowledge in their fields.

With numerous degree and professional program options, you will find your niche here. Many of our programs offer courses on nights and weekends and support students working full-time. Our flexibility even helps to decrease our time-to-degree for Ph.D. students. Our college average time to degree is 5.9 years; the national average is 7.7 years.

Collaborative and inclusive community

This is our moment to contribute to a more just and diverse society in the most human way. CEHD celebrates diversity in thought and experiences. We offer an environment that insists on listening, strives for understanding, and encourages risk-taking and self-reflection.

As part of the University of Minnesota, we share the University’s core values and culture. For more than thirty years the University of Minnesota has been among the vanguard, identifying strategies to help major research universities contribute to increasing the pool of prospective faculty members and professionals from underrepresented minority groups.
