Program Features
- Earn a $35,000 for a Paid Residency Fellowship for field experience and student teaching (renewable for up to two years)

K-12 ESL: FALL 2024 - SPRING 2026 SCHEDULE
Option 1: Two Year Paid Residency Fellowship with option of teaching in year 2
Year One
- Paid fellowship ($35,000)
- Complete 100 hours of field
experiences across the K-12 ESL
scope: elementary school, middle
school, and high school while in the
paid fellowship
- Mentored by university supervisor
- Complete 18 credits of coursework
Year Two
Option 1A: Paid Residency Fellowship
- Paid fellowship ($35,000)
- Complete a full year of student
teaching across the K-12 scope
- Mentored by university supervisor
- Complete 12 credits of coursework
Option 1B: Tier 2 ESL Teacher
- Work full-time and complete student
teaching on the job
- Mentored by university supervisor
- Complete 12 credits of coursework
Option 2: One Year Paid Residency Fellowship
Year One
- Complete 100 hours of field
experiences across the K-12 ESL
scope: elementary school, middle
school, and high school
- Field experience may need to be
unpaid time from work
- Mentored by university supervisor
- Complete 18 credits of coursework
Year Two
- Paid fellowship ($35,000)
- Complete a full year of student
teaching across the K-12 scope

Option 3: Tier 2 ESL Teacher
Year One
- Work as a Tier 2 ESL teacher
- Complete 100 hours of field
experiences across the K-12 ESL
scope: elementary school, middle
school, and high school
- Field experience may need to be
unpaid time from work
- Complete 18 credits of coursework
Year Two
- Work as a Tier 2 ESL teacher and
complete student teaching on the job
- Complete 12 credits of coursework
Language Requirements and Licensure Checklists
Two semesters of college-level language study (one language) in a language different from your primary language or two years of high-school level language study (one language) in a language different from your primary language.
If English is not your primary language, applicants may need to demonstrate English language proficiency. More information is available on the Graduate School website.
