  • TRIO
TRIO is a set of federally funded college opportunity programs that support students from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds in their pursuit of a college degree. TRIO programs provide academic tutoring, personal counseling, mentoring, financial guidance, and other supports necessary for educational access and retention. TRIO is comprised of three programs:
    • TRIO Student Support Services
Sponsors the President's Emerging Scholars program, which awards a $1,000 scholarship to eligible students during their first year and again in their fourth year if they are on track to graduate and have participated in the program.
    • TRIO McNair Scholars
Federally-funded program which seeks to increase the number of first-generation and underrepresented students who apply and matriculate to doctoral degree programs, and attain doctoral degrees.
    • TRIO Upward Bound
A college preparatory program for low-income and educationally disadvantaged high school students designed to help generate the skills they need to succeed in postsecondary education. Upward Bound provides comprehensive and intensive support including tutoring and academic skill development for college-bound students.
  • College Readiness Consortium
The College Readiness Consortium at the University of Minnesota works in partnership with PreK-12 educators and others to increase the number and diversity of Minnesota students who graduate from high school with the knowledge, skills and habits for success in higher education. The Consortium works to reach that goal through three ongoing initiatives:
    • Engaging the University
    • Ramp-Up to Readiness™
This school-wide advisory program leads students through a research-based sequence of activities and workshops to prepare them for postsecondary success.
